VW Group's China sales edge up in May
Volkswagen Group’s China deliveries edged up 2.5 percent year on year to 319,500 vehicles in May, as VW brand sales compensated for Audi’s ongoing recovery from a dispute with dealers.
Last month, VW brand sales rose 4 percent to 241,600 vehicles, while Audi deliveries declined 4 percent to 48,012. Also in May, Skoda sales fell 6.1 percent to 24,200 vehicles. Sales data for Porsche and Bentley were unavailable.
Skoda, in a statement, attributed the downturn to “the ongoing revision of the model range,” and predicted an upturn in the second half of the year.
Despite its modest May sales increase, Volkswagen outperformed rival General Motors, whose deliveries were flat year on year at 294,425 vehicles.
For the first five months, VW’s overall sales fell 3.3 percent to 1.51 million vehicles.
