Shandong, Ethiopia to strengthen cooperation on production capacity
Eastern China’s Shandong province is prepared to enhance its cooperation with Ethiopia on production capacity of textile and garments, agriculture, machinery and infrastructure under the Belt and Road Initiative, China News reported on May 16. The two sides shared their resolution at the Ethiopia-Shandong Production Capacity Cooperation Forum, held in Jinan, capital city of Shandong, on May 16.
According to Department of Commerce of Shandong Province, Ethiopia had received investment from 22 enterprises in Shandong by 2016, and the import and export volume between the two reached $280 million that year.
“As a coastal province in eastern China and one of the country’s economic hubs, Shandong is home to China’s anchor companies engaged in manufacturing, chemicals, machinery, metallurgy, textiles and construction,” said Gong Zheng, provincial governor of the People’s Government of Shandong Province.
The governor added that Shandong will continue to support its companies in their endeavors to go global. The government encourages them to expand their cooperation with Ethiopia and invest in Ethiopian agricultural products, building materials, tiles and machinery.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn also noted that Ethiopia, taking advantage of momentum from the Johannesburg summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, is willing to strengthen production capacity with Shandong, especially in garments, agriculture, machinery and infrastructure, under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
