Volvo deliveries climb 21% in March on demand for local models
GOTHENBURG, Sweden -- Volvo Car Corp. says its China sales rose nearly 21 percent year on year in March to 9,095 vehicles on strong demand for its locally produced XC60 crossover and S60L sedan.
Volvo also said the XC90 crossover and S90 sedan continued to sell well in China, but the company did not give model-by-model sales.
For the first three months of the year, sales were up nearly 19 percent to 23,335 vehicles.
China is the biggest market and an export hub for Volvo. The Swedish automaker ships the China-made S60 and S90 sedans to the United States.
In 2010, Volvo was acquired by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Since then, the two companies have shared the cost of developing new platforms for midsize and compact vehicles.
