China's light-vehicle exports rise 12% in 2016
Light-vehicle exports increased 12 percent to nearly 477,000 last year as car and truck demand started recovering in other emerging markets, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said.
Chery Automobile Co., China's largest light-vehicle exporter, led the surge. In 2016, Chery shipped 88,081 vehicles overseas, an increase of 21 percent from a year earlier.
Other Chinese automakers haven't disclosed export figures for 2016.
Main export markets for Chinese carmakers include emerging economies such as Russia, the Middle East, northern Africa and South America.
China's exports also received a boost from Volvo Car Corp. and General Motors, which now ship vehicles to the United States.
In 2015, Volvo started shipping the S60 sedan from its Chengdu plant. And Last year, GM's joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp. began exporting Buick Envision crossovers.
Export data for the Volvo S60 and Buick Envision are not available.
