German supplier Brose breaks ground for major plant in Taicang

German supplier Brose started construction on a factory in Taicang in east China's Jiangsu province to supply carmakers in the region.

The Taicang plant will make door panels, window regulators, latches, seats, rails and motors for Geely, Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, Volkswagen and Volvo. Construction began last week and it will be Brose's largest Asian factory when it opens in 2018.

Brose did not disclose its investment in the plant.

It covers an area of 60,000 square meters, and will generate 2.2 billion yuan ($320 million) in annual revenue after it becomes fully operational.

Brose has 10 plants in China with a combined work force of 3,800 employees. Last year, the company's China businesses reported sales of 8 billion yuan, or 18 percent of Brose's global revenue.
