Geely hikes sales target after September surge
Geely Automobile Holdings raised its sales target for the year to 700,000 vehicles after deliveries soared 82 percent year on year to 76,544 in September.
The company now aims to boost sales 37 percent in 2016. Geely previously targeted volume of 660,000 vehicles.
Three crossovers -- the Boyue, Gemgrand GS and Vision -- fueled the company's explosive growth. All three models went on sale this year. Deliveries of the three models totaled 32,633 vehicles, accounting for 43 percent of the company's September sales.
To meet strong market demand for crossovers, Geely opened a new assembly plant in the northwest China city of Baoji this month. The factory will mainly build the Baoyue crossover, Geely's top-selling model. Sales of the Baoyue topped 14,000 vehicles in September.
Geely also is constructing an assembly plant in the north China city of Zhangjiakou to produce vehicles built on its new Compact Modular Architecture, which Geely developed with Volvo.
Geely, headquartered in the east China city of Hangzhou, is listed in Hong Kong. Its parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., owns Volvo Car Corp.
