Goodyear to expand passenger car tire output in China
Goodyear is planning to add 3 million units of annual capacity for passenger tires at its Dalian, Liaoning, plant, under a five-year, $284 million (1.9 billion yuan) investment project.
The investment "will help enable the company to meet long-term demand ¡ for its high-value-added tires in China and other Asia Pacific markets," the company said. The project is in addition to an expansion already underway at the plant that opened in 2012.
The $284 million project will create 250 jobs, according to Goodyear.
Goodyear relocated the factory to the Pulandian Gulf Industrial Zone in 2012 from a site within the Dalian city limits that offered no room for expansion.
Goodyear has maintained manufacturing operations in Dalian since 1994 when it acquired majority control of what then was called Dalian General Rubber Factory.
The Dalian factory is tooled to produce 10 million car tires and 500,000 truck tires a year, with capacity for an additional 2.1 million passenger tires being installed by the end of 2017.
