Magneti Marelli opens suspension plant in Guangzhou
Italian supplier Magneti Marelli said it has opened a plant in the southeast China city of Guangzhou to produce suspension components.
The 27,000-square-meter (290,626-square-foot) factory will produce suspension systems for as many as 220,000 vehicles a year, plus pedal boxes for 100,000 vehicles annually.
The plant initially will employ 60 workers.
Magneti Marelli launched operations in China in 1996. Its Chinese unit produces powertrain components, electronics, exhaust systems, shock absorbers, lighting and other components, and employs 3,500 workers.
Last year, the company's China sales totaled 550 million euros (4.0 billion yuan).
To oversee its growing operations, the company opened a new headquarters in April in Shanghai. That 22,000-square-meter center houses two r&d laboratories and will accommodate 550 employees by year end.
Magneti Marelli also has formed a joint venture with Changchun Fudi to build a lighting plant in the northeast city of Changchun.
