German supplier begins interior plastics output in China plant
German automotive supplier Benecke-Kaliko has officially launched production of plastic skin for armrests and seats at a new plant in Changzhou, in Jiangsu province.
The 40 million euro (289 million yuan) plant launched production late last year with 100 employees, and now the company is adding 50 more.
The new plant will annually produce 10 million square meters of the surface material Acella, doubling its production capacity for that material in China. A second expansion phase for the new facility is planned if demand continues to rise.
The Changzhou facility is operated by Benecke Changshun ECO Trim, a joint venture between Benecke-Kaliko and its Chinese partner Jiangsu Changshun Group Co. Benecke-Kaliko is a unit of German megasupplier Continental AG.
"This underlines the great importance of the Chinese market for us, as well as the excellent relations that Benecke-Kaliko has with its partners in the local automotive industry," said Benecke-Kaliko CEO Dirk Leiss.
Benecke-Kaliko has been manufacturing in China with its joint venture partner since 2005. The company also has a plant in Zhangjiagang.
The Benecke-Kaliko Group is headquartered in Hanover, Germany. It employs 2,500 workers and operates seven factories in Germany, Spain, Poland, China and Mexico. Last year, the company generated sales of 549 million euros.
