Cooper Standard opens 2 plants in China
Cooper Standard Holdings Inc. has launched two plants in China, a fluid handling operation in Huai'an in east China's Jiangsu province and an auto parts factory in the southwest China municipality of Chongqing.
The Chongqing plant, which officially opened on Feb. 1, has 18,000 square meters (193,750 square feet) of floor space and employs 200. It will produce fluid handling systems, fuel and brake components, and sealants for Ford Motor Co., Mercedes-Benz and Volvo Car Group.
The Huai'an site opened in January to develop and manufacture fluid handling systems. The plant is a joint venture between Cooper Standard and Japan's Inoac Corp.
Cooper Standard recently established a technical center in Shanghai, which includes a test center for its products. The company also acquired majority ownership of its partnership with China's Huayu Automotive Systems Co. and opened a sealant facility in northeast China.
The company said these moves demonstrate its confidence in the Chinese auto market and its expansion capabilities.
Cooper Standard CEO Jeffrey Edwards said, "Since 2012, we have more than doubled our investment in the area and are now pleased to employ more than 5,200 employees in 11 manufacturing and technical facilities across the country."
