Changan deliveries rise 11% in 2015 on hot-selling crossovers
Changan Automobile Co.'s vehicle deliveries increased 11 percent year on year to 1.54 million light vehicles last year, reflecting strong demand for its crossovers.
Sales of the CS 75 midsize crossover soared 252 percent to 186,623 vehicles while deliveries of the CS 35 compact crossover jumped 68 percent to 169,332.
But demand for Changan's sedans and multipurpose vehicles was mixed.
Deliveries of the Eado compact sedan rose nearly 18 percent year to 182,332 vehicles, but sales of the Alsin compact car were flat at 123,712.
Sales of the Honor compact MPV rose 3.2 percent to 142,344 vehicles, but deliveries of the Eulove subcompact MPV dropped more than 18 percent to 37,522 vehicles.
Changan did not disclose sales of its other passenger vehicles and microvans. Changan is China's second largest microvan maker behind SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co.
Industry sales of microvans have lagged over the last year as China's rural car buyers switched to MPVs and crossovers.
Changan was China's largest domestic producer of passenger vehicles in 2015. But it still lags far behind General Motors and Volkswagen Group in sales.
In 2015, General Motors' China deliveries rose 5.2 percent to 3.61 million while Volkswagen's China sales dropped 3.4 percent to 3.55 million vehicles.
