EV, plug-in hybrid sales quadruple in Sept.
Sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in China continue to forge ahead, jumping 320 percent from a year earlier to 28,092 in September.
The latest monthly sales include 19,228 EVs, four times the tally in the same month last year, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
In September, sales of plug-in hybrids surged 230 percent year on year to 8,864 vehicles.
The association did not record any sales of fuel cell vehicles.
In the first nine months, deliveries of EVs and plug-in hybrids totaled 136,733 vehicles, up 330 percent. That sales total includes 87,531 EVs and 49,202 plug-in hybrids.
Only vehicles produced in China can qualify for "green" government subsidies.
The robust sales growth of EVs and plug-ins in China is expected to continue as the Chinese government pushes hard to add battery charging facilities for green vehicles.
Last month, the State Council issued a mandate for the installation of a more extensive network of battery charging facilities by 2020. The network is intended to meet the needs of 5 million EVs.
At the end of 2014, only 780 charging stations and 31,000 battery charging poles had been constructed, according to data from China's National Energy Administration.
