Infiniti deliveries surge 33% in June on demand for locally built models
Infiniti gained market share in China last month as retail sales jumped 33 percent year on year to 3,301 vehicles.
Nissan Motor Co.'s luxury brand received a boost from two locally produced models, the QX50 SUV and the long-wheelbase version of the Q50 sedan.
The two models, built at Nissan's joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp. in the central China city of Xiangyang, generated roughly 60 percent of Infiniti's volume in China last month.
In the first six months, Infiniti's retail sales in China totaled 18,921 vehicles, up 36 percent from the same period last year.
Globally, Infiniti sold 103,500 vehicles in the first half of this year, up 13 percent year on year.
Infiniti is one of the few global luxury brands that have maintained rapid sales growth in China this year.
Due to China's weakening economy and the recent stock market rout, Audi, BMW, Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover have failed to generate healthy sales growth so far this year.
Mercedes-Benz, which reported a 22 percent sales increase through June, is a major exception.
