EV, plug-in hybrid production triples in June
Automakers in China produced 25,026 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids last month, tripling output compared with June 2014.
June production included 10,500 passenger EVs, 6,218 commercial EVs, 6,663 passenger plug-in hybrids and 1,645 commercial plug-in hybrids, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
For the first six months, total output of EVs and plug-in hybrids exceeded 78,600 units, a three-fold increase from the same period last year.
For the year to date, automakers in China produced 36,300 passenger EVs, 15,500 commercial EVs, 20,400 passenger plug-in hybrids and 6,406 commercial plug-in hybrids.
In China, only EVs, plug-in hybrids and fuel-cell powered vehicles qualify for government subsidies. The ministry did not disclose production figures for fuel-cell vehicles.
