Beijing Hyundai tops sales satisfaction survey; Audi outpolls all luxury brands
Beijing Hyundai topped mass-market brands in J.D. Power's latest survey of Chinese consumers' satisfaction with the car-buying experience.
The joint venture between BAIC Motor Corp. and Hyundai Motor Co. scored 812 out of a possible 1,000, higher than other mass-market brands, which averaged 682 points, Power said.
The annual survey is based on responses from 15,633 owners who purchased a new vehicle during an eight-month period ending in February. J.D. Power conducted the survey in 57 major cities in the first four months of this.
The study measures car buyers' satisfaction with the dealership according to five factors: delivery of the vehicle, the initial sales contact, the deal, the salesperson, and the dealership facility.
Dongfeng Citroen ranked second among mass market brands and Dongfeng Nissan placed third.
Among the 14 mass-market brands that scored above average, two are Chinese: FAW Car and Chery (see table below). Among foreign brands, Mazda, Kia, Ford, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Skoda, Jeep and Mini scored below the industry average.
Audi was the top luxury brand with a score of 795; Infiniti ranked second with a score of 760. The average score of luxury brands was 720.
According to J.D. Power, both mass-market and luxury brands have improved the sales process. In this year's survey, the average sales satisfaction score of mass market brands increased by 11 points from last year, while that of luxury brands was 14 points higher.
