Infiniti China sales rise 41% in April despite industry chill
Nissan Motor Corp.'s Infiniti brand is one of few foreign luxury marques that maintained robust sales growth in China last month, with deliveries surging 41 percent year on year to 3,753 vehicles.
Infiniti enjoyed strong demand for its two locally produced models, the stretched Q50 sedan and the QX50 SUV.
The two models, produced by Nissan's joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp., generated sales of 1,990 units in April, accounting for more than half of Infiniti's China sales.
In April, Infiniti also sold 654 units of the stretched Q70 sedan and 466 units of the QX60 SUV. Infiniti did not disclose sales of its other models.
Infiniti did well despite mediocre sales of China's top two luxury brands. Audi sales edged up 0.2 percent while BMW deliveries rose only 0.6 percent.
Cadillac sales grew only 5 percent year on year in April, down from 76 percent in March.
Mercedes-Benz -- China's No. 3 luxury brand - was an exception to the trend, with sales up 21 percent.
