Continental opens tire r&d center
Continental AG opened an r&d center for tires on the site of its tire plant in Hefei, in eastern China.
The 4 million euro (34 million yuan) facility can test 6,000 tires a year. The German supplier is drawing up plans to expand the center so that it can test an additional 1,000 tires annually.
The technical center will allow Continental to speed up the design of new summer and winter tires for the Chinese market, the company said. Continental also operates tire test centers in Germany, Sweden, Slovakia and Texas.
Separately, the company has begun construction of a new automotive test center in Yancheng, in eastern China.
The 2,500 square meter facility will allow Continental to test brakes as well as high-speed tires. The center will include an automated test facility to evaluate tire performance on wet and dry road surfaces without a driver.
The Yancheng center will open next year.
