Geely's rebound gains momentum with 55% surge in global deliveries in February
Geely Automobile Holdings' rebound continued in February as global deliveries surged 55 percent year on year to 33,138 vehicles.
For the first two months, the company's worldwide sales jumped 67 percent from a year earlier to 92,022 vehicles.
Geely's sales got a lift from robust demand in Geely's home market. In the first two months, sales in China rose 77 percent to 85,177 vehicles.
Sales in foreign markets, which had declined in the previous two years, have finally stabilized. Geely sold 6,845 vehicles overseas in the first two months, on par with its exports in the same period a year earlier.
The EC7 compact sedan and its redesigned version - dubbed the Xindihao -- continued to fuel Geely's rebound. In the first two months, combined sales of those vehicles surged 105 percent to 39,379 vehicles.
Deliveries of the new Vision, which hit the market in November, totaled 18,800 vehicles for the first two months this year. Sales of Geely's three SUVs -- the GX7, SX7 and GX9 -- jumped 126 percent in the first two months to 12,134 vehicles.
Sales data for Geely's other models were unavailable.
Like a number of Chinese automakers, Geely ran into trouble in recent years after aggressively introducing a hodgepodge of brands and models. Late in 2013, Geely downsized its lineup by phasing out three subbrands -- Emgrand, Gleagle and Englon.
The company launched new models under the revived Geely brand, and it also streamlined its dealership network. Geely's sales decline sharply from February to December, but sales began to revive this year.
Geely is based in the east China city of Hangzhou. Its parent company, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. owns Volvo Car Corp.
