The growth was achieved on strong demand for SUVs and multipurpose vehicles -- SUV sales advanced 36 percent from a year earlier to approach 4,077,900 vehicles while MPV deliveries surged 47 percent to some 1,914,300.
During the year, sedan sales increased only 3 percent to roughly 12,376,700, but microvan sales dropped 18 percent to about 1,331,700.
On the commercial vehicle market, while bus sales rose 8 percent from a year earlier to about 606,900, truck sales declined 9 percent to roughly 3,184,400.
In total, sales of automobiles including light vehicles and commercial vehicles approached 23,491,900, up 7 percent from 2013.
