China's light vehicle sales up only 6 percent in October on soft demand for sedans, microvans
China's light vehicle market continued to lose growth momentum in October, with sales of sedans, SUVs, MPVs and microvans rising 6 percent year on year.
Sales for the month totaled 1,708,900 units, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
Once again, strong demand for SUVs and MPVs propped up the market. In October, SUV sales surged 36 percent to 387,300 units; while MPV sales jumped 36 percent to 184,300 units.
However, sedan sales dropped 1 percent from a year earlier to 1,052,500 units. It was the first month this year in which sedan deliveries declined.
Demand for microvans remained soft, as sales last month plunged 33 percent to 84,800 units.
China's commercial truck and bus market remained weak, as sales declined 15 percent last month to 278,300 units. As a result, combined sales of passenger vehicles and commercial trucks rose only 3 percent from a year earlier to 1,987,200 units in October.
Thanks to robust demand early this year, light-vehicle deliveries in the first ten months rose 10 percent to 15.9 million units. For the same period, total vehicle sales rose 7 percent to 18,988,100 units.
