Volvo China sales jump 36% in October
GOTHENBURG, Sweden -- Volvo Car Corp. says its China sales rose 36 percent year on year in October to 6,917 vehicles as demand remained strong for its sedans and crossovers.
The Swedish automaker's top-selling model in China last month was the S60L sedan, followed by the XC60 crossover.
In the first 10 months of this year, Volvo China's sales rose nearly 36 percent from a year earlier to 65,827. For the full year, the company expects sales of 80,000.
China has become Volvo's top global market, outpacing the United States and Sweden.
Volvo, purchased by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. in 2010, has prospered in China since it began local production last year.
The company's assembly plant in Chengdu builds the S60L sedan. A second plant in the northeast China city of Daqing produces the Volvo XC Classic, the previous-generation XC90 crossover, which is priced much lower than the new XC90. Volvo imports the new XC90 into China from Sweden.
