Baosteel, the largest steel producer in China, has decided to design and implement an SAP system using the resources of Baosight, an IT company within the Baosteel Group. Baosteel and Baosight have selected IDS Scheer to be its strategic partner to provide consultancy in this project. The deal was signed end of February 2004 and the first phase of this project for Baosteel Plant Number 5 will be completed in November 2004. This represents a successful “entry card” into the Chinese market.
With annual sales of US $ 9.3 billion, Baosteel is ranked fifth in the world in this industry. With the SAP implementation Baosteel aims at achieving best customer satisfaction through higher product quality, better cost management and the improvement of order fulfillment and customer services. IDS Scheer was selected by Baosight, the IT company within the Baosteel Group, as a strategic partner to provide consultancy and coaching in overall system design, implementation strategy and methodology. In addition to that the order comprises further elements such as project planning, conception of the blueprint, design of the product structure and also of the functional level concept. The special challenges will be the setting up of the productive system, the necessary change management and the support of the go live of the system. The implementation will start with Plant Number 5 and eventually rolled out to the other companies within the Baosteel Group.
