GAC sales jump on strength of SUVs, sedans
Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. said its deliveries jumped 39 percent year on year in June to 43,360 vehicles on strong demand for its SUVs and sedans.
In a written statement, the state-owned automaker said the GA6 sedan and the new GA8 luxury sedan had a strong month.
In the first six months, GAC sales rose 57 percent to 250,878 vehicles.
Two SUV models accounted for the bulk of those sales. Through June, deliveries of the GS4 SUV totaled 180,725 vehicles and sales of GAC’s GS8, a seven-seat SUV, totaled 50,622.
The company has targeted sales of 500,000 vehicles this year, and 1 million vehicles in 2020.
In 2017, the company plans to introduce a five-seat GS7 SUV, and its first electric vehicle, the GE3.
GAC, headquartered in the southeast China city of Guangzhou, has joint ventures with Toyota, Honda, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Mitsubishi.
